What I love about being a SaaS

03/07/2012

Instant Updates!  What is better than that?  As a new technology that strives to fit every office's workflow and IT systems, we've left ourselves open to every suggestion from new clients.  It was a simple concept when we launched our beta in 2010, where I said "tell me what you don't like about my program".

Without the raw feedback and my development team anxiously jumping at the solutions, the program would have never made the progress it did in 2011.  When the new features were added in, they became instantly available to every user of eDossea.  This was something most dental offices had never seen before; they were formally used to purchasing & downloading additional software from other vendors while upgrading IT.

What is SaaS?  This is defined as Software as a Service, one of the most common forms of Cloud Computing.  To break it down in simple it terms, basically the company you are buying service from hosts their own software and you access it through a network (internet).  The SaaS space has been blowing up the last couple years and in 2012 due to its accessibility.  The next technology your business needs no longer needs to be purchased and shipped or installed.  Most SaaS models say "pay me one monthly fee" (like we do), then give you full access through any computer at your office or home with internet.

This week's announcement was just one example of how this works for our customers.  Some out of state clients called me in January and asked if we could provide training videos for their staff.  Rather than make a video and send it by disc, or create a downloadable file, we just decided to build it into the program.  Now, users of eDossea can just click the "Watch Video" links as they upload and share patient files with other dentists.

New upgrades and new directions are being evaluated every day.  It makes for an exciting environment, the best moments are an office manager logging in at 8am and seeing that her own suggested feature is ready to use right now.  It's a new way of working with clients: you suggest it, we build it, you now use it.  One more adavantage of the cloud!
